Custom Food Products Located on an 8.8-acre property in Owingsville, Kentucky off of State Route 36 on Kendall Springs Road. Custom Food Products is directly adjacent to the Cintas Corporation's Bath County garment facility. In 1993-1994, Suhar & Associates, Inc. designed the original 25,000 SF facility. Subsequently, the building was constructed with Suhar & Associates taking the role of Construction Manager. The plant is predominantly a refrigerated meat processing facility with product coolers, freezers, processing spaces, and docks constructed of 4" and 6" thick insulated metal panels, conventional structural steel, and a ballasted EPDM roof. The plant also contains offices and employee welfare areas. The Custom Food Products Owingsville facility is refrigerated by an ammonia refrigeration system. A unique feature of this facility developed by this firm is the utility mezzanine, which occupies the space above almost the entire plant and is constructed using a floor system made with the insulated metal panels. This allows for smooth, readily cleanable surfaces on the interior of the coolers, freezers, and processing spaces and maintains a separate space for utilities and maintenance above. In 1995, the firm (as Suhar & Miller Architects) designed a 10,800 SF Addition that included a New Blast/Holding Freezer (capable of blast freezing to -40 degrees), Raw Product Cooler, new Dry Storage addition, and additional docks. The design also increased the capacity of the ammonia refrigeration system with the addition of a new Engine Room. Again, during this project, the firm performed Construction Management to build the project. In 2000, the building grew again as Suhar & Associates Architects designed a 2,500 SF Raw Product Cooler Addition for the facility. 2003 brought a large expansion design for Custom Food Products. Suhar & Associates Architects designed a 37, 625 SF addition that would almost double the size of the plant. This design included about 18,500 SF of production space, additional Product Coolers Product Freezers, a new Blast/Holding Freezer, a new Dry Storage addition, additional receiving docks, additional offices and employee welfare areas. Custom Food Products, Inc. decided to build this addition in phases. The James N. Gray Company completed the construction of the first phase of the expansion in 2004. This phase was about 5,500 SF in size and included an additional Product Freezer a Product Cooler, an expansion to the product Cool Down Room, and a smaller Blast Freezer addition. During this expansion Custom Food Products, Inc. also erected a 3,500 SF pre-engineered metal storage building on the perimeter of their property. SAA Architects, Inc. looks forward to the construction of the future phases of this expansion for Custom Food Products, Inc. and is pleased that they have returned to us many times for their Architectural and Engineering needs.
